Mummified Tomatoes - The Results :)

Check out our “mummified” tomatoes.
Before Easter we did an experiment where we “mummified” tomatoes, a little like how the Ancient Egyptians did with their Pharaohs. We removed the insides of the tomato and packed it full of a mixture of salt and bicarbonate soda. We left them for 2 weeks over the Easter holidays. When we got back to school, we observed that the tomatoes were really quite well preserved (and a little stinky). The salt and bicarbonate soda mixture had dried them out and kept them from rotting. Check our pictures :)
